RDPG MEMBERS RECEIVE ADA AWARDS at FNCE 2007

Four Research members are are to receive ADA Awards at FNCE this year. more...

A Letter from Our Chair
Submitted September 11, 2007

Did you ever play the telephone game as a child?  Inevitably, what was shared at the beginning of the circle was not the same message relayed at the end of the line.  In an effort to promote direct communication, the RDPG Executive Committee has been working diligently this summer to provide communication tools that are easy to use, timely, and reach all members of the RDPG.  To this end, we now have an electronic mailing list. See the box on Research DPG Emailing list for how to join and reap the benefits of having access to our member’s expertise at the touch of the keyboard.  I extend a thank you to Martha McMurry MS, RD, LD, RDPG Secretary, for spearheading this effort.

A second communication tool that houses member information is the Web site. Some new items that have been posted are member activities, FNCE research highlights, and research resources.  If you would like to submit an item for the Web site, then please send it to Theresa Lally (nutritionanswers@juno.com) by the 12th of every month. Thanks to the Web site Advisory Committee:  Cynthia Cadieux,. PhD, RD , Theresa Lally, RD, LDN, and Melissa Pflugh, MS, RD.  The current chair also serves on this committee.

Stop by our FNCE booth (#9) during the DPG Showcase (10:30 am – 1:00 pm, October 1st) to see the Web site in action. Stacey Mobley, PhD, RD, CNSD, RDPG Chair-elect, and I will be manning our booth. FNCE Research Activities sponsored by the RDPG are shown below.

Speaking of FNCE, the DPG will have a basket in the ADAF silent auction this year. The 2007 edition of, “Research, Successful Approaches,” will be in the basket. Take a chance on it and help the ADA Foundation.  Also at FNCE, we have an opportunity to congratulate several of our members who are receiving awards (Table 2). To all of the awardees, we are proud of your research efforts and service to the profession.

Awards provided by the DPG are a key member benefit. Thank you to Cengage Learning/Wadsworth , publishers, for agreeing to support the undergraduate research award and to Dave Holben, PhD, RD, LD, RDPG Past Chair, for seeking this sponsorship.  Look for future communications to have your students apply for this award.

As always, I welcome any input on what you, the members, need.  I look forward to seeing you at FNCE.
